About Me

When I first started my business Via Gelato, people told me I was a disappointment, naive and that I was making a huge mistake leaving my decade long career as a physical therapist to cook food. Now that Via has been around a decade, people say my story is an inspiration and that it’s genius. I’m still the same person – and I don’t think that I’m a disappointment OR a genius. Owning a business in food, has always been tough and continues to be hard especially through the pandemic. I went into food because I really care about it and I spend a lot of time thinking about it.

I get asked a lot why do I cook or how did I start cooking. And the simple answer is because I love to eat. I want to eat wonderful things. I love the joy and comfort that eating a meal or dessert that someone poured skill, time and thought into making. I cook and bake because these are the things that I want to eat and I am proud to share it with others. I bake professionally at Via literally almost every single day. The recipes that I am sharing on this blog reflect what I’ve learned over the years and continue to learn.

When you make these recipes at home and eat what you made or riffed on, I hope you can feel that thought and care poured into them. I love that cooking and baking is about caring for one another and ourselves – I can’t think of many other things I’d rather be spending my time on.
